The Scandalous Church

There is a SCANDAL in the CHURCH

The kind you see on the news, in the paper, or whispered around quietly.

For some reason we are scared of the scandal.

“It makes us look bad to the world”

For some reason we think that we need to hide it or keep it quiet.

For Jesus

For the LOST

So they won’t know how messed up we are.

“DON’T Tell”

“Satan is the Accuser”

“It is God’s glory to conceal a matter” /misinterpreted/much/

“Noah’s sons covered his nakedness”

In a Letter from a Man of God . . .

“9 Be diligent to come to me quickly; 10 for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica—Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia. 11 Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry. 12 And Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. 13 Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come—and the books, especially the parchments.

14 Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm. May the Lord repay him according to his works. 15 You also must beware of him, for he has greatly resisted our words.

16 At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged against them.” (2 Timothy)

Did Paul just put people on blast?

Wow, he actually spoke of people behind their backs?

You mean, he warned Timothy to be careful of someone?

He warned the church?

Perilous Times and Perilous Men

3 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away! For of this sort are those who creep into households and make captives of gullible women loaded down with sins, led away by various lusts, always learning and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres resisted Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, disapproved concerning the faith; but they will progress no further, for their folly will be manifest to all, as theirs also was. (2 Timothy 3)

You mean people will know the truth and the church will survive????

What if I disagree with a leader?

Will my skin turn white with leprosy?

Will the ground open up and swallow me?

Their FOLLY will be manifest to all.

Their FOLLY–anoia–madness, expressing itself in rage, lack of understanding–anoia

anoia–root of anoy

Moses was not in folly, or sin.

You are not Miriam or Korah–in sin

You are not in sin, when you deal with sin.

FOLLY will be exposed,

with leprosy or a sink hole.

Perilous times

“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter”

Isaiah 5:20

There is a SCANDAL

“But evil men and impostors will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived”

(2 Timothy3:13)

A little leaven

A little sin

“And you are puffed up, and have not rather MOURNED, that he who has done this deed might be taken away from among you . . . deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus . . . Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven leavens the whole lump? Therefore purge out the old leaven that you may become a new lump, since you truly unleavened.

Your glorying is not good.

What does that even mean?

boasting of sin?

Not boasting of sin,

but boasting of their “unconditional” love and tolerance

Do we give grace to cancer?

NO We cut it out

Cancer Spreads, but it is not contagious

Sin Spreads, and it IS contagious

But we will soon be admitted,

because sin is terminal.

The wages of sin

We will kill it all,

Unless we cut it out.

There is scandal in the church and we need to deal with it.

It isn’t going away.

And the whole time the world is watching us shake our fists to judge sin OUTSIDE the church,

and close our eyes to the sin INSIDE the church.

And we are UNDONE

And we have LOST it

What good are we for then, but to be thrown to the ground

trampled on

no one wants to face that.

Who wants to PRESERVE the church?

Be still before Him.

He is coming.

The Mighty One, God the Lord,
Has spoken and called the earth
From the rising of the sun to its going down.
Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty,
God will shine forth.
Our God shall come, and shall not keep silent;
A fire shall devour before Him,
And it shall be very tempestuous all around Him.

He shall call to the heavens from above,
And to the earth, that He may judge His people:
“Gather My saints together to Me,
Those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.”
Let the heavens declare His righteousness,
For God Himself is Judge. Selah

Wow. Mind blowing. And this is real. This will happen.

We will all see this, and yet we think there are not witnesses against us.

“Hear, O My people, and I will speak,
O Israel, and I will testify against you;
am God, your God!
I will not rebuke you for your sacrifices
Or your burnt offerings,
Which are continually before Me.
I will not take a bull from your house,
Nor goats out of your folds.
10 For every beast of the forest is Mine,
And the cattle on a thousand hills.
11 I know all the birds of the mountains,
And the wild beasts of the field are Mine.

12 “If I were hungry, I would not tell you;
For the world is Mine, and all its fullness.
13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls,
Or drink the blood of goats?
14 Offer to God thanksgiving,
And pay your vows to the Most High.
15 Call upon Me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”

Always the SCANDAL

Always a WITNESS

But to the wicked God says:
“What right have you to declare My statutes,
Or take My covenant in your mouth,
17 Seeing you hate instruction
And cast My words behind you?
18 When you saw a thief, you consented with him,
And have been a partaker with adulterers.
19 You give your mouth to evil,
And your tongue frames deceit.
20 You sit and speak against your brother;
You slander your own mother’s son.
21 These things you have done, and I kept silent;
You thought that I was altogether like you;
But I will rebuke you,
And set them in order before your eyes.

22 “Now consider this, you who forget God,
Lest I tear you in pieces,
And there be none to deliver:
23 Whoever offers praise glorifies Me;
And to him who orders his conduct aright
I will show the salvation of God.

Psalm 50

A Pastor suing his children, whom he abused–because the kids dare to TALK about it.

Children being touched at church, by trusted leaders. SHH!!!

Liars in the pulpits, selling fake stories of their lives, in the name of evangelism. GRACE!!!! Cover it.

Your Glorying is not Good.

Remove the leaven.

Preserve the church.

Don’t be afraid.

Deal with the scandal,

or be trampled underfoot by the world.

It is only in recovery,

after the operation.

Totally in agreement and have become very disheartened with the “so called church.” Doesn’t Paul in 1 Corinthian 5:12 tell us that we are not to judge the non-believers but are to judge those who profess Christ, those in the church? The church is always saying “don’t judge” and why? We are to love and bring correction, not condemnation.

      Could not agree more.

Hello, I found what little I read of your blog to be a biased non-biblical based (taken out of context- worst kind) personally opinionated MESS. Needs a lot more Love and a lot Less Judgment! Will pray discernment for you- (esp after reading your comments about Pastor Coy- and no I’m not a church member there) but WOW- the only part I agree with is they should call it what it is…Adultery. There is shame but it should be short lived as God sees ALL SIN the same- and we ALL miss the mark. Bob and me and ?you have already been saved- so we just need to humble ourselves and ask forgiveness and move on…
Otherwise- you’re so off base about how Jesus would handle situations it’s just SAD. Jesus PAID the price of our sin already- so there is no value in our wallowing in the consequences- you make your amends, fix what you can and who you’ve hurt but then you are to FORGET as HE forgets our sin as well. I think you guys have it wrong… HE is much bigger than our sin and HE has already overcome Sin and Satan. Remember He told us it is Finished. It is now our Gift to enjoy. We’ll stumble- He expects that- just as long as we stay vigilant & know to say “sorry” WHEN we fall and then confess our sin- then strive to do better next time. Don’t worry- the consequences follow- they can’t be avoided here in this world but not in God’s eyes. Otherwise, you are still living under the LAW and we’ve been delivered from that. We MUST pray harder for Leaders- they are at such higher risk…

        • I agree with some of what you are saying, but it is incomplete. Yes Jesus forgives (but I wrote and repeated that in my blog). But sin destroys and there are consequences. You can’t rush the process of coming back from this with platitudes. People are hurting bad. There needs to be healing for everyone. And some accountability. Anyways, thank you for commenting, and for praying for me. I need all the truth God wants to show me. God bless.

    • Marisa says:

Amen!…I agree. I just heard that portion of Matthew 7 preached recently and it is most often brought in a way so sin is not judged…it is shown tolerance. There is mercy and grace but they’re not to be able to pat someone on the back with “there, there….we understand…so it’s okay ” Psalms 89 and 97 are clear…judgement is one of he foundations of God’s throne. God repeats the same verse twice so, to me, that would mean He wants me to get it. I think people “feel” offended or disliked when they are corrected because of 1) pride and 2) they identify with the sin to a point where it FEELS hard to separate themselves from it. The road away from facing sin aka confrontation, is always the easier, the more “loving” way to take so that’s the route most taken. I have seen it happen time and again. I’ve done it. And the fruit of those times were “no conviction, no repentance, no change.”
Yes, we love…and love doesn’t spell tolerating sin or hiding it. God loves us all. Romans 8 says that nothing can ever separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus, That doesnt’ mean we’re all going to heaven.
It’s the sin that is being judged…and the devil or his minions… and of course because of our participation in it, it becomes personal. But God gave us the Way…so we have to keep using His Way and not our humanistic way to deal with sin and the devil. Judgment is the sharp sword that separates us from the sin…cuts off our participation…sets us free. 1 John 1: 6-10 is one wonderful illustration of conviction, repentance, judgement (although the word “judgment” is not mentioned ) and restoration.
So we have choices before us always…may they always be for His glory.

    I totally agree amen

  3. BibleBelt2 says:

Remember that God created the Church and we should support it, teach, correct it and keep guiding the members back to Christ and His infallible Scriptures. Sometimes it’s done with strong exhortation and sometimes the correction is done with gentleness and kindness, but with both always in love with restoration in mind.

  4. 2 Thessalonians 2:3…and that is read with many tears. But it is in the plan of God before His Return. But it is still painful. I am grateful for deliverance from the world, for the Savior and Lord Jesus Christ who forgave my own apostacy, and raised me to serve His Holy Name. What can I do, Lord Jesus, to reach those dear friends who are being deceived and are falling away? It is like part of my family being torn from me. I must focus on You, in these days. Even when I talk to them, it is like what Peter says of Susan in The Last Battle, they are “no longer a friend of Narnia.” Still, Lewis held out hope for Susan in Letters to Children, 22 June 1957 to Martin, “The books don’t tell us what happened to Susan. She is left alive in this world at the end, having by then turned into a rather silly, conceited young woman. But there’s plenty of time for her to mend and perhaps she will get to Aslan’s country in the end…” Thank you for the kindness of your tarrying, so that the very last would repent and be saved.

We have been trained, (wrongly so) to avoid confrontation in the Church.and not to judge. As a pastor i must judge, not to condemn, but to correct, and I do. Where are the men and women of God who will stand for something – who are not afraid to name the names of our so-called “great” leaders in the Church who have failed and fallen? When I can verify their falling from grace, I will tell the Church! Will Jesus find a pure Church when He returns? It is a daily struggle, personally, and corporately, to walk the walk without having these so-called examples on TV telling us how to live righteously and then being caught in the very sin they preach against! The enemy is always trying to expose us. We avoid that by finding a trusted confidant and confessing to them our faults and failures. When we have exposed ourselves to them, the devil cannot expose us to the world! Pastor Dave

  8. angel_one says:

t least very, very tolerant of sin in our midst. We have been fed the ‘love and forgiveness’ sermon too often. We now think it has to be complete and immediate, with NO consequences from ‘mere humans’. This is a very bad and scary thing for the churches. We know that evil attacks from WITHIN! After all…Satan is a ‘fisher of men’ too and, sadly, Christians falling under this idea of ignoring sin as fast as possible are easy picking.

  9. angel_one says:

hummm…it ‘lost’ the opening of my comment…”We have been taught to be at least…”

  10. Agree says:

    1) This little church stayed home and 2) This little church went to market (titles of the books by Gary Gilley) are 2 amazing publications dealing with our times and the condition of our evangelical churches. A real eye openers. The second is free as pdf somewhere. The first I had to buy.

If you are HIS, HE will lead you to true repentance and in your heart you can’t help wanting to say I am sorry and restore relationship with Jesus Christ ASAP. Amen

  12. NOLR History says:

The aforementioned infiltration of sin, iniquity and transgression we are witnessing happened previously in the 16th and 17th centuries. One historical result was the individuals adhering to the various apostasies promoted by the apostates was to form new cults to live out their false beliefs:
    Freemasons (Christian Kabbalah)
    Rosicrucians (Christian Kabbalah)
    Quakers (Christian Kabbalah)
Roman Catholics (Jesus reincarnates through doctrine of Transubstantiation/Gilgul)
    Mormons (Christian Kabbalah)
Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn (Kabbalah)
Androgyny and Homosexuality (atrazine combined with Greek and Jewish gnosticism)
Unification Church / Sung Myung Moon (Christian Kabbalah, reincarnation)
Children of God / The Family (Christianized pedophilia, Jewish sex myths and legends)
    Scientology (Kabbalah)
    Illuminati (modified Kabbalah and anarchy)

Nothing is really new here. What is different is that the historical lessons to be learned and applied to the present situation are readily available in college and university libraries as well as free downloads to study at one’s convenience. It’s as if Christians would rather not connect-the-dots to history to identify the errors and separate from them. Instead, they apparently would rather work of the present crisis as some new phenomenon and class it under an “end-times” moniker than get at the roots (episteme). Apparently they are so dumbed-down from the Outcome Based Education (OBE) and multiculturalism and groupthink implemented in the 80s that passion-oriented expression is the only option???? Did God Almighty give everyone a brain and tell them not to use it or is the Illuminati methods of mind-control through the media so powerful that it has overridden God’s creation?

Who is more powerful here? Corporate giants like Monsanto with their GMO frankenfood, Target’s new gender-inclusive bathroom policy, Bill Johnson and John Piper’s new christ, new gospel, and new spirit (both Latter Rain, Word-of-Faith combined with “revival” technology of big screens, flash pots, lasers, etc.). Really, how many more examples before you leave these poisoned entities and never come back?????? Vote with your pocketbook. Why give support to those scheduled for the Lake of Fire? The Bible says they departed from the from once handed down.
