Spiritual Gifts

Do you know what your spiritual gifts are? When was the last time you thought about it? Do you think it is possible that you may have more gifts or different gifts today than you did a few years ago?

But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. (1 Corinthians 12:7-11)

You might benefit from taking one of those spiritual gifts tests online to see how you score. They are obviously not a replacement for the Spirit of God, but they do usually give a good picture of what your desires (gifts) and passions for ministry are. For example, I laughed when I scored low on hospitality and organization/administration. It is so true. I always need to serve alongside others with those gifts. But the gifts I score high on, are really my true gifts.

This is one of the reasons we need to stop comparing ourselves to other believers. We are all different. We all need each other. Others are strong in our areas of weakness and that is great. We can be strong for them in their areas of weakness. We are a body, and every part is necessary.

I have taken this test before–Free Spiritual Gifts Test

Here is another one–Gifted2Serve Online Spiritual Gifts Inventory

If you take one of these tests, I hope that you discover that you have grown stronger in an area of gifting–or that you even have a new gift growing! How exciting.

I know that EVERY true believer in Christ Jesus has a spiritual gift. And it is a tragedy for them to live life not knowing it, and not using it. It is like have a birthday present that is yours, but you never open it! Plus, your church needs you!

If you are interested in how to use your gifts, especially if they fall in the Prophetic realm–Word of Knowledge, Word of Wisdom, Revelation, Tongues (interpretation), or Discerning of Spirits, or even in the more practical, necessary day to day ministry realm– there is an amazing website that I recommend. It is called Acts One Eight Ministries and it is a collection of mp3 recordings. You can find a full teaching on each gift, with real life practical experiences and examples. I profited from this greatly. I sat in my living room, listening to these teachings, as God led me. And I began to practice my gifts more and more. This is so necessary.

We are to stir up the gifts that are in us (2 Timothy 1:6).

Be stirred up!

  1. I really enjoy your blog. Your position on pre-wrath has me thinking and researching. I’ve been pre-trib forever.

Would you consider reading Strange Fire by John MacArthur?

    • I have listened to a couple of John MacArthur’s sermons on the topic, as far as reading the book I might consider it sometime in the future. Right now I am unable to for a couple reasons.

1.) There are a couple of things the Lord wants me to focus on studying right now, for my own edification and growth. I need to focus on what He wants to speak to me right now.

2.) I don’t honestly feel like God wants me to spend a lot of time focusing on “Strange Fire” right now. I think it could plant seeds of doubt and discouragement, when God is wanting me to stir up the gifts that He has given to me.

I am not opposed to doing research that contradicts my own view. I think that is why I listened to a couple of his sermons. But I also think there are other ministries that the Lord has actually called to research and digest the work of John MacArthur. I don’t feel the Lord is calling me to that. I think honestly, He is calling me to focus on building myself up in the prophetic word and stirring the hearts of those I love to be ready, to have their lamps trimmed, to be filled with the Spirit and to be able to speak forth the Word of God with power and authority.

That is what I need to focus on.

BUT . . . If in a couple months the Lord tells me to read “Strange Fire,” I of course will obey, and I will let you know! It is just we only have so many hours in the day, and I need to be about my Father’s business.

      God bless you.

  2. Donna Machado says:

    Be aware, beware…John MacArthur is a Calvinist…

  3. As am I. What’s the concern with Calvinists?

  4. If that has anything to do with predestination, it is in the bible. Freewill is too. So I don’t ‘sweat’ those things.

Now, about John MacArthur, there is a problem, and it’s not a little one. He has said that it is OK to take the mark of the beast and still be saved. Uh… not. Despite the many other things that he said that are okay, I would then take him ‘off the shelf.’ You can all google this to find out more, it’s on lot’s of watchman blogs.

Sorry but I’m pre-Trib and always will be. I am totally convinced of this. But it’s ok to have different views on this and still be in fellowship. 🙂
