Jen Hatmaker & Hillsong’s False Teaching–Dear Saints, Do Not Lose Heart!!!!

Praise God! He is Lord, He is Savior, He is MOVING! In the face of false teaching, I am choosing to praise God for still convicting the world in truth, anyway.

I was so discouraged earlier this evening. I read an article entitled, “Hillsong United’s Band Leader Calls Jen Hatmaker’s Remarks On Homosexuality Refreshing.’” If you are not familiar with Jen Hatmaker’s remarks, she basically said that homosexual marriage can be holy before God.

“We both believe a same-sex marriage, as a life-long monogamous commitment, can be holy before God.” (Brandon Hatmaker)

I do not follow Jen Hatmaker, but I have friends that really click with her humor and Christian point of view. For a while now she has been outspoken about how Christians need to show love to the gay community. I get her heart for that. I love gay people too. I hate the idea of them being put off from the love of Christ.

I have a close friend who was a lesbian in a committed relationship for almost a decade, and now she is my sister in the Lord. Why? Because despite knowing she could choose to go to a “tolerant, inclusive, and affirming” church, the Lord convicted her of her sin and granted her repentance. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord.

But tonight, as I prayed and got into the word the Lord totally ministered to me. I was reading Ezekiel and there was a verse that totally stuck out to me–The Lord says to the false teachers, “you have discouraged the righteous with your lies, but I didn’t want them to be sad. And you have encouraged the wicked by promising them life, even though they continue in their sins.” (Ez. 13:22). The Lord is talking about false prophets who bash God’s holy saints, and promise God’s blessings to the unrepentant.

This is exactly what Jen and Brandon Hatmaker, and Joel Houston from Hillsong United are doing. They are promising God’s favor to people who have not been washed by God, and have been blinded and bound by sin–apart from the gospel. And, they are acting like Bible loving saints are the ones that God is upset with. God doesn’t want me to feel bad because I think gay marriage is a sin. And God doesn’t want gay people to feel okay with gay marriage.

Do you know that sin can deceive us? Hebrews says that sin can deceive us and harden our hearts! “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” Hebrews 3:13. This means that those who are given over to sin, can start believing that what they are doing is not wrong–and their hearts can become hard to conviction.

This is so dangerous, because conviction is what God uses to save us! If the church gets in the way of that conviction, by approving of sin, it hinders the process of salvation.

Sin has already deceived the world and the world embraces the lie, “They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised.Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts.” Romans 1:25-26

Paul goes onto talk about how believing lies and rejecting the truth of God let to unnatural desires and lusts–“Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones.  In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error.” Romans 1:26-27

This is what the Bible teaches.

But it is not ALL the Bible teaches!!!

And Hallelujah!!!

The Bible teaches that God saves homosexuals:

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites,  nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.  And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

Do you see that? There were people in the church of Corinth that were sanctified from sodomy and homosexuality–just as God saved the drunkards and the idolaters.

You see, so I guess what Jen and Joel do not believe is that there is a God who SAVES gay people the same way He saves straight people- washed, sanctified, and justified.

They ignore the washing and sanctification, and just pronounce justification.

Their error is not one of love, but of a lack of faith in a God who TRANSFORMS people through regeneration, through the mighty power of the Holy Spirit. They don’t believe in the miracle.

They must have such a small view of our Savior, or in radical transformation. But I have seen God transform people, myself included. It is a miracle greater than physical healing.

I know my God DELIGHTS in delivering us.

We are His trophies of grace and faith.

But while Jen and Joel want to excuse sin and lower the standards for Christianity and salvation–God is still at work!!!

I know that God is still out there convicting homosexuals of their sin–just as He is convicting heterosexuals of their sin. Today is still the day for salvation, and God is real.

The truth is, there are plenty of saints that have been saved out of homosexuality, in a world of false preachers telling them they didn’t have to repent–but the Holy Spirit lovingly broke their heart anyways. They experienced the HEAVY presence of God and surrendered to His love and grace. Just like every other brother and sister in Christ.

God does that. He leads those appointed to salvation into truth. He draws sinners to Himself.

He did that to me. There were things in my life that no one told me to repent from, and yet tears would fall down my cheeks in sweet conviction as I placed them on the altar to the Lord.

“And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.” John 16:8

He is here.

And He loves all of us. And none of us can come to Him apart from this sweet conviction. He is calling souls to repentance-“The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9

Now think about this, it is easy for Jen and Joel to just say that God doesn’t care about gay marriage, that it can be holy before the Lord. It is easy to say. It is just words. They aren’t dying for sinners . . .

And guess what, it could be easy for God to say something like that too, to brush it off as no big deal. But God doesn’t just excuse our sin, and say, “Whatever.”

It wasn’t “Whatever” because He is holy and He is just.

What God did was harder–He died to pay for it.

Jesus took the punishment for sodomy, homosexuality and all sexual immorality. He loved us so much that He took it on the cross. There is no “whatever, maybe God can be okay with it because it is legal.”

God can be okay with it, when it is under the blood.

Because there is no other gospel.

There is no gospel of “whatever man, it’s cool.”

The Gospel is ONLY good news if it saves us from something, and it does. Because the fire is prepared for judgment, but people don’t have to go there. It is the time now to through prayer and fasting–spiritually “call 911” and save souls from that fire.

Now, Jen and Joel have a “form of godliness” but they “deny it’s power.” God’s power is the only thing that can make us truly holy. And it does.

Here is a description of “the church” in the last days (this is not the world):

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.  People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,  without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,  treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—  having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people. (2 Timothy 3:1-5

We are to have NOTHING TO DO with people who deny the power of God to make us holy, who walk in and promote ungodly attitudes and practices.

So, I will have nothing to do with their teaching, but I am also not going to let them bum me out, because Jesus said these things would happen. Their ministries will be fake, and impotent.

On the other hand, I am going to seek Jesus as hard as I can. I am going to pursue Him as a treasure hidden in a field. I am going to value Him above everything else. There is no discouragement to be found in that ❤

I am going to ask Him to place His Spirit upon my ministry, upon my home, upon my life. I am going to ask Him to use me to bring hope and truth to those who don’t know Him. I am going to ask Him to bless and anoint His word as I share it with people, that His Spirit would add the weight of conviction to my words and people would feel God, and know Him.

I am going to pray for the Lord to bless the ministries of people who tell the truth, that their word would spread, that the messengers would run, and that the workers would bring in the harvest.

I want to be a part of what God is already doing. Let false teachers waste their time, God is not mocked and His word will not return void. I will not lose heart.

God bless!!!

That is a wonderful encouragement to me, personally, because indeed, I have many times found myself vexed like Lot, by the sinfulness and filthy conversation of wicked people who rejoice in sin and living sinful lifestyles. The Lord has had to remind me several times in the past few years, that though I will see many things that disturb me, to look up because my redemption draws nigh.
Praise God…We will not be defeated.

  2. Barbara says:

Thank you so much for your encouraging thoughts and for making it clear what the word of the Lord says about this subject. I’d like to share with you a ministry of 4 individuals who are living and preaching the power of God in delivering them from the sin of homosexuality. God bless! comingoutministries.org

Very timely message! Will be sure to check out that verse from Ezekiel, which reminds me of the words of God through the prophet Isaiah: “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil”, (Isaiah 5:20). Hillsong is not a group I’m familiar with, so I’m wondering if you could clarify for me who Joel is. You mention him a few times in connection with Jen Hatmaker. Thank you for faithfully sharing the Word of God, which is living and powerful.

  5. Beverley says:

Thank you for this precious post. As evil surrounds us let us encourage and pray for one another to remain strong in the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. Family, friends and ‘professing Christians’ will forsake the true Gospel and thus, attack us who are to be the messengers bearing “Good News”. ❤

  6. Dianne says:

AMEN!! Just heard about Jen Hatmaker this week. Never heard of her before. Thank you for your emails. Such a blessing. Good to know there are other believers who agree the same as me. If I lived near you I would love to have coffee and talk with you for a while. Praying Jesus blesses you!!

  7. Robin says:

Most excellent post! I felt there was something “off” about them. Thank you.

  8. Susan says:

I appreciate this perspective and needed to hear this…my heart has been heavy…knowing how wonderful it is to belong to Jesus and having that amazing treasure…but then when trying to share that good news with others (rightly…including that God is holy and we must lose our lives to truly gain our lives in Him)…we are accused of being judgemental and hateful…I believe because of people like the Hatmakers (who I presume mean well)…they only concentrate on the love part of God…neglecting His holiness and wrath…THAT IS SO DANGEROUS and I believe we are seeing exactly why that is dangerous…it is not loving to leave people in their sin and tell them that God loves them in that state. But you are right…it is God who draws…by His Holy Spirit He does he convicting and He is faithful and good and will continue as He always has…because this is about Him and His purposes and His Will being done. God bless you and thank for this word of encouragement.

Susan, Your comment reminded me of a short clip I posted on my FB page this morning.
      J.C. Ryle – Spoiled Children! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ee8dEeHIXg
As children of God we must be obedient to the Word. We adults are often spoiled and want to manipulate the Word so we can live as we please like spoiled children.
Loving one another is to correct each other; we should be convicted to warn and attempt to save others from being deceived.

      • Susan says:

Totally agree…I have been involved in the conversation on Facebook. Actually commenting and interacting with others on Brandon Hatmaker’s statement concerning his wife’s interview…it was not an easy conversation and most considered me judgemental and hateful because I said we must flee sin and we must hold each other accountable…stating that calling homosexuality sin was not being judgemental, but rather just stating what the Bible says and all Christians should declare sin as sin and not give anyone a pass…that, ultimately is not the loving thing to do (unless you just want to comfort people in this temporal life…giving no care for their eternal lives.) Sadly, it seems that the modern “christian culture”…would rather take a “live and let live” stance…instead of doing the hard work of pursuing holiness…in our personal lives and collectively as the church…😕

        • Beverley says:

Yes, Susan. You stated it very succinctly. I am without a local church for quite some time because I am seen as too judgmental; unloving. Praying for the true remnant to remain strong. I do not consider myself to be better than others. I am not a “high & mighty” type of gal. I just weep and grieve over loved ones and precious souls not having the “fear of the Lord.” Eternity may be own a breath a way. 😦

  9. Sweet sister,

It is the sign of the times. They wink at sin and turn a blind eye. But those who are holy and righteous as God has sanctified us, are demeaned. They are calling good evil, and evil good.
It is just another flavor of the apostasy of the end times ‘church.’ I have seen it for a long time and it is getting worse.

I agree, we will never win anyone by beating them over the head. There is no reason not to be loving. But love does not accept or condone sin, just the opposite, love exposes sin so it can be repented of and the person healed and saved. It is the kindness of God that leads us to repentance, so how will anything else lead others to it? But in that is the conviction of the Holy Spirit of our sin. No one is more loving than God, and like a loving parent, He reveals our sin so it can be repented of, for our own good.

    The formula is thus:
God hates sin. Sin separates us from God, because God is holy. So God sent His Son to die a brutal death on the cross, to save us from our sin. If sin was like ‘whatever… no biggie,’ then why would Jesus have had to go to the cross for it? Because it is a really big deal. And then the Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. Because sin is the opposite of the righteous standard of God, and because of sin, judgment is coming. People feel guilty over sin. They know the standard because they have a conscience. Even those who claim to love sin and hate Christians, lay in wait for us to fall so they can say ‘see! gotcha!’ and in that, ironically, they reveal that they know the standard, that we are held to live uprightly, especially Christians who are saved! They know. Those who feel the conviction are lead to repentance, they turn from sin and get saved. They are reconciled to God and fellowship is restored as sin is no longer a barrier and they feel that immediately. If they continue to walk and grow in Him, it will lead to sanctification, which means ‘to be made holy.’ Thus a saint. We grow in holiness and righteousness as we mature in Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit working in our hearts. That is how God made it, because He wants a holy people! You can’t get past one page of the Bible without noticing that fact.

But the problem with these folks is that they never read the Bible, and they are preaching another gospel. It is a gospel where sin doesn’t matter, people are okay as they are, in fact they are already divine and just need to ‘realize’ it, and true saints are just ‘bible thumping Christian’ party poopers who talk about repentance from sin. It is a gospel of false love, false peace, false harmony, false unity, false tolerance and false acceptance and so on that leads to the one world religion under antichrist where they all hold hands as one body in unity with sin and sing some hokey false unity song.

But remember, God is not mocked. He will require it of them one day and it won’t go well for them on that day. Consider the words of the Lord below:
“But I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads My servants to be sexually immoral and to eat food sacrificed to idols.” Revelation 2; 20
“Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die, for I have not found your works perfect before God. Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.” Revelation 3; 2-5
(by the way, verse five eviscerates the false doctrine of ‘once saved, always saved’!)
Read the letters to the churches, what Jesus says to the church in Revelation 2-3. It is serious and no one is playing games. The time to repent is now, while there is still time.

God bless you sister! ( :

Very good word.  Thanks so much.  ‘-). <><

  11. Linda says:

A sister in the Lord and I have been studying 2 Timothy. I thank the Lord that you helped me to see 2 Timothy 3:5 as denying the power to SAVE!..I have been blessed and encouraged by your posts for some time now. (We live in the country and there is not a church near that preaches the Word and gospel in truth.) Finally I knew it was time to say thank you to you! Thank you! …May the body of Christ continue to let Him live through us by faith, hear His voice, follow Him, love others with His love, and be His witnesses as He opens the door. For the time is short.

  12. Dania says:

It is such a blessing and so refreshing to receive your e-mails. They give warning and encouragement. May God continue to use you to minister to His sheep.

  13. Denise says:

Wow. Definitely this is a sign of the times. These people don’t realize that by condoning homosexuality, they are helping, and guiding these people into eternal damnation. My son is a practicing homosexual. I love him so very much, and I pray for him daily. When he was a young boy he gave his life to Christ. I do not know what happened, or when, but I do know that he bought the lies of the enemy. I also know we are not fighting against flesh and blood… I believe that because this is a spiritual battle PRAYER is our weapon. Sometimes it’s an overwhelming battle. The enemy likes to remind me that should my son die today he will spend eternity in hell. God is sovereign, and I will love HIM no matter what. I will continue to trust, and YES! God is still at work!

  14. Top Gun says:

It’s not surprising. Lucifer has infiltraed the church and most people are not aware. Years and years of deception and when something as blatant as this is said, most people don’t blink and think twice. If you look hard enough, you’ll be able to find that most churches and their hierachy is controlled by the lord of this world. Each and everyone of them working towards one goal, one world order under one religion. Very soon we’ll be unable to distinguish the church from the world and other beliefs such as Islam

  15. Aurora Hogarty says:

Thank you dear sister for your boldness in speaking the truth. I always look forward to your encouraging articles. I am a brokenhearted mother who has a daughter who is living as a lesbian for yrs. I get so overwhelmed sometimes and I fear that she may never have her eyes opened and set free. It is such a demonic stronghold! And with the world and now churches embracing this lifestyle?? But, I will NEVER stop praying or give up! It is so lonely when one can’t get people, family members to see the truth. Rejection is hard, but The Lord Is My Strength!
God Bless you for the good work that you do in warning others!

  16. Beatrice says:

So glad to read on your blog again!!

The falling away is so much bigger and deeper then I ever thought it would be. Now in Sweden in the end of October it has been to big events that many are disagree about, whether if it’s right or wrong. The first is that the pope has been here to gather different churches and religions to remember the reformation, and to talk about unity. A false unity- one world religion! The second is the big Awakening Europe event organized by Bethel Church from California with speakers I see as false teachers, with a false gospel and a false Jesus. Soo many of my friends have visited there and are so fashionated about it. Most people around me see me as critical and negative when I talk about what’s wrong and try to warn about Bethel Church..

I was so glad when I listened to Derek Prince on YouTube “Protection from deception” (three parts). I really recommend it! :):)

I must say that it means A LOT!! to read this blog and to see fellow believers who also stand up for the TRUE gospel, the TRUE Jesus and the TRUE unity! There is an automatic unity through the Spirit for every true child of God, you don’t need to arrange it!

    God bless!!❤️🙏🏻

    • That is soooo true, “there is an automatic unity through the Spirit for every true child of God, you don’t need to arrange it.”

False teachers are the ones crying for unity–for true Christians to unite with their false teaching.

    • Susan says:

I so agree with your unity statement…I always think of it and say it this way: when an individual is in true union with God/Christ (a vertical relationship if you will…)…then we all as His children/followers (true regenerated converts) will automatically be in union with one another (a horizontal relationship)…like you said…we don’t work at it or try to create it…it is simply a natural result. A work of God vs. an effort of man…

  17. Beatrice says:

Amen! I really agree to what you both are saying. This verse come to me:

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7

We don’t need to struggle to be united as believers, we “just” need to be ONE WITH JESUS, by being in His wonderful light, loving His word by obeying it and then WE ARE ONE IN HIM. That is so precious!

  18. Lilly says:

I’m feeling glad I learned to “google” and look into my suspicions about Gary Young and him being a one world proponent and false teacher, so I could read now these other important matters. I’m very thankful

  19. q1369 says:

Thank you sister for sharing God’s word. God bless
