The Curse Of Trusting In Man

So today, Jeremiah 17 was on my heart. I knew it was from God to me today. And I love how the Lord uses parallelism in His word to develop ideas–either expanding on a metaphor and going deeper, or showing a contrast to help truth stand out.

Well today it was a CONTRAST.

It begins with the best phrase ever, “This is what the Lord says:”

So okay, I am listening. Lord give me ears to hear.

Jeremiah 17:5-10

This is what the Lord says:

Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
who draws strength from mere flesh
and whose heart turns away from the Lord.
That person will be like a bush in the wastelands;
 they will not see prosperity when it comes.
They will dwell in the parched places of the desert,
    in a salt land where no one lives.

But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,
whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water
    that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes;
    its leaves are always green.
It has no worries in a year of drought
    and never fails to bear fruit.”

The heart is deceitful above all things
and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?

10 I the Lord search the heart
    and examine the mind,
to reward each person according to their conduct,
    according to what their deeds deserve.”

AAAH!!!! Water of the Word.

How many of us Christians unknowingly have placed our trust in the wrong thing (the wrong “he”)

So many people have been HURT by the CHURCH. Angry at the “hypocrites.”

So many of us have become tumbleweeds in the desert. Dead and dry, and blown about.

Cursed — ‘arar –bitter

Our roots were not deep in the Spirit.

But to be planted by the rivers of water, whose roots go deep.

blessed– barak — praise on your knees

Even in the times of drought and destitution they shall not wither.

They shall remain fruitful.

Help me not to look around and be upset when a tumbleweed comes rolling by.

I am fine. I have roots, I have water, You have a plan.

YOU DON’T CHANGE when people do.

Verse 12-13

12 A glorious throne, exalted from the beginning,
    is the place of our sanctuary.
13 Lord, you are the hope of Israel;
    all who forsake you will be put to shame.
Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust
    because they have forsaken the Lord,
    the spring of living water.

What can I do?

but follow You?

Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”

John 21:22
